The County Emergency Management Department helps local officials, first responders, businesses, and citizens to be more prepared through planning, training, drills, and exercises in the community.

When disasters occur, the Department coordinates the assessment of damage that can lead to a Disaster Declaration and assistance in the recovery for every sector of the community through local, State, and Federal disaster relief programs.

BEACON - Burnett Emergency Alert Communication or Notification System

Burnett County has a system to allow residents and visitors the opportunity to receive free emergency alert notifications.  These notifications can include severe weather alerts, law enforcement warnings, Red Flag warnings, etc.  All landlines in the county have already been loaded into this system.

To receive these alerts via text message on your cell phone and/or via email, you will need to register through our BEACON system.  Upon registering, you tailor the list of alerts you wish to receive, and also target which area of the county you want to be notified about.  You will NOT receive unsolicited calls or messages.

Personal Preparedness

Local officials and relief workers will be on the scene after a disaster, but they cannot reach everyone immediately. You could get help in hours, or it might take days.

Basic services such as electricity, gas, water, sewage treatment, and telephones may be cut off for days, or even a week or longer. Or, you may have to evacuate at a moment’s notice and take essentials with you. You probably will not have the opportunity to shop or search for the supplies you need.

That’s why it is important to have your own fully-stocked disaster kit ready.

A disaster supplies kit is a collection of basic items that members of a household may need in the event of a disaster. Supplies such as food and water should last for at least three days.

To build your own kit, use the Emergency Supplies Kit Checklist.
